The Legacy of Detroit
Central CME Church was founded on September 22, 1923, with just 20 members worshiping in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Claude Allen. As the congregation grew, the church relocated several times before finding its permanent home at 7600 Tireman Avenue in 1966, through the visionary leadership of Pastor Homer Draper, who is remembered as the builder of this great edifice.
For more than a century, Central CME Church has remained a beacon of faith, hope, and service in the Detroit community. Throughout its rich history, the church has been blessed with faithful pastors and dedicated members who have continued its legacy of spiritual growth, compassionate outreach, and unwavering commitment to Christ.
Today, under the leadership of Rev. Marvin Charles Lue Jr., affectionately known as Pastor Marvin Charles Lue Jr., Central CME Church continues its mission of faith, service, and community—building upon a proud legacy while embracing the future with purpose, vision, and the love of God.
